"What's the difference?" The Russian Federation did not believe the words of the UEFA president about the return of Russians
Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov expressed confidence that teams from the Russian Federation will not be allowed to participate in international youth tournaments. The official noted that rivals will simply refuse to play with his compatriots.
Koloskov said this in a commentary to Metaratings.ru, reacting to the words of the President of the European Football Union (UEFA) Aleksander Čeferin about the desire to return the Russians to tournaments under the auspices of the organization. The Russian representative added that European teams had previously boycotted the decision to allow teams from the aggressor country to participate in youth competitions.
"We should not forget that our U-17 teams have already been admitted. There is a decision of the UEFA Executive Committee on this matter. But we have not played a single game yet. UEFA has stated that it is not technically possible to organize competitions in Europe. The same will happen with youth teams, what's the difference? It's not just about making a statement, although that's important. It is important to organize the competition. If he had said that UEFA guarantees participation in competitions officially organized by UEFA, that would have been another matter. But they will decide to allow it, and then what?" Koloskov said.
Last year, UEFA tried to get the Russian youth national team back into the European Championship qualifying tournament, but faced a fierce pushback from various countries. More than a dozen federations announced a boycott of the match with the team from the aggressor country. After that, UEFA reversed its decision.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, UEFA President Alexander Čeferin has expressed admiration for Olympic champion Pavel Kolobkov's desire to return Russians to tournaments.
