"We will be criticized": Russian Olympic champion complains that Russians "went to the Olympics to be disgraced" in 2024
Olympic champion Alexander Tikhonov called the performance of Russian athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games, where they are competing in a neutral status and have not yet achieved good results, shameful. The former biathlete was also upset that it was "difficult for dictator Vladimir Putin to ban athletes from participating."
Tikhonov said this in an interview with the R-Sport propaganda news agency. The four-time winner of the Games criticized the athletes who agreed to compete in the French capital, effectively calling them traitors and outcasts of the Russian sports community.
"It was difficult to ban participation. We left everything at the discretion of federations and other organizations. Coaches and federations had to compare the strength of our athletes. We went to Paris for the disgrace, and it is confirmed. Now the world will criticize us even more, saying: "Where were you going? You are not capable of anything at all. We allowed your representatives to speak, and what did they show?" Tikhin was indignant.
Earlier, the head of the Russian national fencing team's coaching council, Mark Rakita, demanded that the Russians "express contempt" for Europe over the 2024 Olympics.
