"We were not the only ones who slept": Rebrov comments on Ukraine's comeback in match with Macedonians in Euro 2024 qualifiers

The head coach of the national team of Ukraine Serhiy Rebrov praised his wards for the reaction to the failed first half of the Euro 2024 qualifying match with Northern Macedonia. The Blue and Yellows coach noted that during the break he had a serious conversation with the team, and after returning to the field they played more intensely and managed to win a strong-willed victory.

Rebrov said this at a press conference after the game in Skopje. He stressed that not only did his team play very sluggishly in the first 45 minutes, but the opponent, sensing this, showed almost perfect football, which led to two goals scored by Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin.

"We didn't have much time to prepare well for the game. I am grateful to the players for showing a completely different level of play after the break. I believe that in the first half, not only did we sleep, but also North Macedonia played very well. They have very experienced players, they have no players under the age of 21. After the first half, we rebuilt the game. Ilya Zabarny's goal was very important. After it, we felt more confident. If you look at the first half, the match against Germany was unnecessary. But it was very important for Ukraine. So no, the game against Germany was not superfluous. After the break, we started to act more intensively," Rebrov said.

Thanks to the victory over North Macedonia, the Ukrainian team scored the first three points in the qualification for the European Championship. Our team came second in Group C.
