Russian heavyweight Yevgeny Romanov (19-1, 12 KOs) sensationally lost the fight for the WBA mandatory challenger in the 101.6 kg (Bridgewater) weight class. At a boxing night in Yekaterinburg, the 38-year-old native of Volgograd lost by knockout to 28-year-old Chinese representative Zhang Zhaoxin (12-2-1, 7 KOs).

The match went more than well for the Russian. Romanov seized the initiative from the very first minutes, methodically breaking through the opponent's defense. At the end of the first round, the Russian representative managed to punch him in the jaw, knocking him out.

Zhaoxin could hardly get to his feet and only the gong saved him from being finished off.

In the second three minutes, Romanov, confident in his advantage, rushed to finish off his opponent, forgetting about defense. The heavyweight from Russia got carried away with the attack, pulled back without a block, and was instantly punished for it. A heavy right straight sent the Russian fighter face first into the ring.

Romanov tried to get up, but did not have time to recover. The referee stopped the fight.

The organizers called Zhang Zhaoxing's victory the upset of the year.
