Ukrainian tennis player defeats Russian and reaches the final of the super tournament in Rome without giving her opponent a hand
Ukrainian tennis player Angelina Kalinina has become a finalist of the WTA 1000 series tournament for the first time in her career. Our compatriot made her way to the deciding match of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia tournament in the Italian capital Rome, with a prize pool of $3.5 million.
Kalinina won her ticket to the final in a clash with Russian Veronika Kudermetova, whose resistance the Ukrainian broke in three games - 7-5, 5-7, 6-2. It took the 26-year-old native of Nova Kakhovka 2 hours and 51 minutes to reach the final.
During this time, Angelina served nine aces and converted five out of 10 break points. The Ukrainian had two double faults, which did not affect the final result.
Immediately after Kalinina's victory, she traditionally did not shake hands with the Russian. "It's very important to win every match because of what Ukraine is going through right now. I really hope that I will give a tiny ray of light, perhaps some positive emotions for my country," the tennis player said in a commentary after the match.
It is worth noting that Angelina will compete for the victory in Rome with the winner of the pair Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) - Elena Ostapenko (Latvia).
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, at the start of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia tournament, Angelina Kalinina defeated another Russian player, Anna Blinkova from Moscow.
