Ukrainian sensation of the 2020 Olympics ended her career at the age of 27
Ukraine's best track cyclist, vice-champion of the 2020 Olympic Games, 10-time European Championship medalist Olena Starikova has ended her professional career at the age of 27, Suspilne reports. The Lviv resident missed Euro 2023 in February and competed in June at the Ukrainian Cycling Championships last time.
The cyclist was not included in the application of the national team of Ukraine for the world championship, which is held in Scotland.
Olena won the European Youth Championships in 2017. Starikova is the only one who represented Ukraine in the UCI Champions League in cycling track. Our compatriot was in the top 50 of the world ranking at the time of the end of her career (26th place in sprint and 39th in keirin).
As OBOZREVATEL reported, Starikova created a grand sensation at the OI in Tokyo by defeating two-time world champion Leah Friedrich of Germany in the quarterfinals of the sprint race.
The Ukrainian lost to multiple world record holder Kelsey Mitchell in the final heat, 0.061 seconds behind the Canadian.
