Ukrainian OI medalist boycotted a match with a Russian at the World Cup: the State Duma said he was intimidated
Igor Reizlin, the famous Ukrainian epee fencer and medalist of the Olympic Games 2020, refused to duel against Russian Vadim Anokhin at the World Championships. The duel of 1/32 finals of the tournament was scheduled for July 26, but our compatriot did not take to the track against the representative of the aggressor country.
This is stated on the official website of the International Fencing Federation (FIE). Reizlin automatically got right into the third round of the competition due to his high rating (14th seed number), but due to the decision of the national federation he withdrew from the tournament.

Earlier, four Ukrainian athletes - Joan Fabie Bejura, Inna Brovko, Vlada Kharkova and Daria Varfolomeyeva - who had been announced for the start of the individual epee competition at the World Championships-2023, hosted by Milan, failed to qualify.
State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev, with the pathos typical of Russians, called the situation dangerous for Reizlin and our compatriots. "Either he was intimidated by his own compatriots, or by sports functionaries, or he was simply scared. To lose to a Russian in the current situation is dangerous for him, that's why he made such a decision," the official expressed an absurd thought.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the International Fencing Federation, which is headed by Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, became the first to allow representatives of the Russian Federation and RB to participate in international tournaments.
