Ukrainian helped Messi become the most decorated player in soccer history
Argentine striker Lionel Messi has won the US League Cup with Inter Miami. David Beckham's team defeated Nashville in the final match.
The main time ended with a score of 1-1. Messi opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a long-range strike, scoring his 10th goal in seven matches in the tournament. In the 57th minute, after confusion in the penalty area and two ricochets from a defender and the goalkeeper, Nashville Faf Pico equalized the score.
In the penalty shootout, the clubs had to kick 22 penalties. Lionel was the first to accurately execute the 11-meter shot. Miami Inter's Ukrainian international Serhiy Kryvtsov was the sixth. He also scored his kick.
The goalies had to take penalties as well. Drake Callender realized his attempt and then rebounded a shot by the Nashville goalkeeper.
The trophy is Messi's 44th award in his career, making the Argentine the most decorated player in soccer history. Leo surpassed Brazil's Dani Alves (43).
During his career, Lionel has won the Spanish championship 10 times, the Spanish Super Cup eight times and the Spanish Cup seven times. Messi lifted the Champions League trophy four times and won the club championship and the European Super Cup three times. He also won the French championship and the Super Cup of the country.
