Ukraine wins Fencing World Cup after defeating the US in the gold final

The Ukrainian women's sabre fencing team consisting of Olga Kharlan, Alina Komashchuk, Elena Kravatska and Yulia Bakastova won the gold medal of the World Cup which was held in Batumi, Georgia. It was the first qualifying stage for the Olympics 2024.

In the gold final our girls beat the USA team (45:42).


In the decisive match Olga Harlan "stabbed" Elizabeth Tartakovsky.


On their way to victory the Ukrainians defeated Algeria (45:43), then made the world number one France lay down their arms - 45:44, then confidently defeated Azerbaijan (45:37), and in the semi-finals smashed Italy (45:36).


The Ukrainian fencers performed brilliantly in the tournament and deservedly took the first line on the podium.



As reported by OBOZREVATEL, March 10, the International Fencing Federation (IFE), which is headed by Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, was the first to allow the representatives of Russia and Belarus to participate in international tournaments.


This caused an angry reaction in the world, and many countries refused to participate or hold competitions under the auspices of the organization. Moreover, at the stage of the Grand Prix in South Korea the FIE banned the symbols of Ukraine. At the same time it became known that the Russian fencers were not allowed to the stage of selection for the Olympics 2024.


Ukrainian fencers have decided that they will not participate in competitions in which representatives of the aggressor countries.

A week before the tournament in Georgia the IFE did not allow the titled Russian fencers Sofia Velikaya, Sofia Pozdnyakov and Yana Egorian to the international competitions.


After that, Russia said it would boycott the tournament, withdrawing the rest of its country's athletes as well.
