"Traitors!" The flight of Russian champions to the United States caused hysteria in the State Duma
Russian State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov called fencers Sergey Bida, his wife Violetta and Konstantin Lokhanov traitors. The titled Russian athletes traveled to the United States, where they competed in the summer at the national championship in a neutral status.
Later, it became known that the Russian Interior Ministry had put Bida and his wife on the wanted list under a criminal article for unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service. USA Today reported that the athletes plan to become American citizens and compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Milonov compared the change of citizenship to a sex change.
"To be honest, I am sorry that huge amounts of Russian budget money were spent to pay for their training and facilities, but in fact they turned out to be cowards, traitors and defectors. One hundred percent they are traitors. They are just vile people who show that the most important thing for them is their personal comfort," Milonov wrote on his Telegram channel.
The parliamentarian is confident that the fugitive athletes will not achieve any success abroad.
"They were called only to demonstrate their rejection of Russian sports citizenship. They will be used like famous objects and thrown away. Doesn't America have its own? Plenty of them. And these are just a political rag, waved around and thrown away," Milonov threw a tantrum.
Fans hint at the MP's unconventional orientation.
"Does Vitalik, being Starovoitova's former long-term assistant and a lover of various unconventional pleasures, think that if he pretends to be an ultra-patriot, people will feel sorry for him and not throw him away like a used item?" users write.
