To those who thought to sit back: they will come for you. State Duma deputy's words about the war in Ukraine provoked a strong reaction from Russian fans
Alexey Zhuravlev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, criticized Russian football players for their lack of willingness to help the members of the "SMO". The head of the Fatherland party was dissatisfied with the activity of the Russian Premier League players in this regard.
"I do not recall any cases when any of our players gave at least a part of their fabulous salary to the needs of the Russian army. Where is the football player who would have warmly welcomed the special operation and, moreover, would not have fled Russia, but rather volunteered for the front?" the 61-year-old Z-patriot said in an interview with R-Sport.
Zhuravlev believes that the well-known football veterans "turned out to be extremely greedy for state money, but are completely incapable of defending the country."
"Perhaps this is such a treacherous environment in general because you don't hear other opinions from the football guard" the deputy was indignant.
Zhuravlev's words provoked a violent reaction from Russian fans, who recalled that his daughter lives abroad.
"Zhuravlev's daughter is married to an Austrian and lives in Europe. Where is the disownment of her daughter, since she never filed for divorce and never returned to her homeland to enroll as a nurse in a hospital? Or is this a generally treacherous environment among the children of MPs?" users write.
Others warn that their government will soon come after more than just football players.
"It's getting warm. To those who thought to sit back and keep silent: they will be coming for you. It was those who were against it who were put in jail first. The silent ones always come next, then the insufficiently loyal ones. And finally, the patriots, one by one. This is the fate of people who accept the rules of the totalitarian state," the fans say.
