Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin became a laughingstock online after he spoke about the legacy of the Sochi Olympics, which were marked by a major doping scandal. The official bent over backwards for Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin, and was immediately met with a backlash from fans online.

"I am confident that we will talk about the results and legacy of the Sochi Olympics regardless of how other countries treat it, because this project was approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin primarily as a multi-component, interdepartmental, infrastructure project for the development of the entire cluster: sports and education," TASS quoted Matytsin as saying.

Readers of the Sports.ru portal called the 2014 Olympics a real disgrace in Russian history. They also advised the minister to inspect the Sochi Games venues.

"There are only negative things to remember there, from the extraordinary investments to the taking of medals from us", "They left a legacy that was not followed up on. That legacy will be felt for a long time to come", "This shame will remain forever", "Remind me what happened to the sports facilities in Sochi after 2014?", "What legacy? Have they found an electrician-plumber-specialist to fix the holes yet? He sank into obscurity..." - they write in the comments.

After the 2014 Games, the state doping system in Russia, which was controlled by the FSB, was exposed. As a result of the Olympics, Russia was stripped of 11 medals.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Russian European champion and 2020 Olympic silver medallist in rowing Anna Prakaten decided to join the Uzbek national team.
