"They wiped their feet on us": the Russian rhythmic gymnastics team whined about the defeat to Israel
Russian rhythmic gymnastics coach Vera Shatalina was outraged by the results of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where Russian representatives were left without gold for the first time in 25 years. The mentor of Dina and Arina Averina called the results of the tournament unfair and accused the organizers of "wiping their feet on us."
Shatalina said this in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV. The 57-year-old native of Tashkent pretended that her team's defeat by Israeli Lina Ashram was allegedly caused by biased refereeing and was a real shock to all members of the Russian national team.
"The Tokyo Olympics, in my opinion, were unfair. It's a shame for our whole team, for the whole country, that we were wiped out like that. It was upsetting for the heart and the country. And my whole life with Arina and Dina, they were a continuous holiday for me as a coach. The Olympic Games are an unforgettable wound in the heart of every athlete, but you have to learn to let go. Even if I, an adult who has seen a lot in my life, took it very hard, I can't even imagine how the girls went through that story, and they are strong people," Shatalina said.
Earlier, the Averna sisters refused to go to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in neutral status and announced their retirement. At the 2020 Games in Tokyo, Dina took silver, and her sister was fourth.
