"They were just scared of us. They're afraid we'll win": ex-coach of Ukraine's national team against Russia explains his suspension from the World Cup
The former head coach of the Ukrainian national team Andrei Nazarov called the suspension of the Russian national team from the World Championship as a fear of rivals that it will win the tournament. The native of Chelyabinsk accused the International Federation (IIHF) of politicization of sport.
Nazarov stated this in an interview with Championship.com. With complete disdain for North America and Europe, he recalled gas and oil in Russia, which "no one will ever cancel," and accused the IIHF of canceling hockey in the aggressor country.
"Personally, I don't understand why the IIHF just takes hockey and cancels it for our country. I think it's simple: the West is afraid that the Russian national team could win the World Cup. Look, no one cancels gas and oil from Russia. And at any price. And they never will. And they decided to take revenge on hockey and say that this is not a political decision, it's just ridiculous to hear. The organizers were just scared of us. They were afraid that we would become champions. No doubt we would have been in the finals. Just say so: "We are afraid of Russia and do not want to see it as a champion," said Nazarov.
Recall that at the 2023 Hockey World Cup, a fan was forced to take off a T-shirt that said "Russia. And the propaganda TV channel Match TV interrupted the broadcast of the tournament match because of a huge flag in support of Ukraine.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the 2023 Ice Hockey World Cup had a great sensation, which was last seen by fans 23 years ago. In addition, for the first time in history, the Latvian team reached the semifinals of the World Cup.
