The United States withdrew from the international federation that brought back Russia and abused Ukraine
USA Boxing has announced its withdrawal from the International Boxing Association (IBA). The organisation has also applied for membership of the World Boxing International Federation (WBIF), which was previously announced by representatives of the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, the Philippines, Sweden and the USA.
This is stated on the official website of US Boxing. It was recalled that the Americans joined the IBA back in 1946. At the same time, the association, which is run by Russian Umar Kremlev, has recently failed to fulfil its mission of supporting Olympic boxing and is in confrontation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Moreover, the IBA refused to comply with the requirements of the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (CAS), which banned the election of the association's president. As a result, Kremlev's ardent fan of dictator Vladimir Putin was re-elected to his post, after which he lifted the suspension of Russians from boxing tournaments and imposed sanctions on Ukraine.
"The IBA's false statements about the Olympic qualification process are confusing boxers, coaches and officials around the world. The IBA knew full well that the organisation was suspended from the Olympic movement. Their actions appear to be an attempt to sabotage the boxing qualification system for the Paris Olympics. The IBA has openly defied the CAS decision and has consistently failed to prioritise the needs of boxers," US Boxing said.
Earlier, American boxers refused to participate in the women's and men's world championships under the auspices of the IBA. And Ukraine's junior national team staged a riot at the European Championships after our colours were banned.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the IBA banned Ukrainian athletes from using national symbols at the European Women's Boxing Championships.
