The Ukrainian national football team lost to the Czech Republic in the 2nd round of Division B of the UEFA Nations League 2024/2025. The match at the Generali Arena in Prague ended with a score of 3:2.
The Czech Republic seized the initiative from the first minutes, trying to put the Ukrainians under high pressure. In the 9th minute, the hosts almost opened the scoring when, after an original heel pass, Jaroslav Zeleni came one-on-one with Trubin.
Almost immediately, the Yellow and Blues got their first scoring chance, but Vanat failed to beat the Czech defender.
The ball was on the field of the Ukrainian national team most of the time, but without shots on goal. In the 16th minute, the Czech team shot on goal for the first time, but our goalkeeper was on the spot.
Rebrov's team mostly worked in defense, attacking the opponent only near their penalty area. The Czechs passed through the center of the field without any problems at all, meeting no resistance.
In the 21st minute, Shaparenko made a mistake near the goal, gave the ball to Vaclav Chorny, who made a pass to Schultz and the Victoria Plzen midfielder scored the first goal of the match.
The Czechs looked much better than our players, confidently attacking, taking advantage of any signs of lost Ukrainians, immediately taking the ball away from them.
In the 37th minute, the Ukrainian national team made the first shot at Kovar's goal, and it was effective. Shaparenko rehabilitated himself for his failure by making a perfect cross into the goalmouth, where Vladyslav Vanat sent the ball into the net with his head.
The conceded goal did not affect the style of play of the Czech team, which continued to press and scored the second goal at the end of the game. After a throw-in to our penalty area and a series of rebounds, the ball bounced to Schultz, who took the round ball with one hand and sent it straight into the net with the other.
The second half began with an attack by the visitors. The Ukrainians loaded the left flank with Mudryk, forcing the opponent to disrupt attacks at the cost of yellow cards. In the first 10 minutes, the Scottish referee John Beaton showed the Czechs three mustard cards.
"Our team started to play combinatorially, we tried to stretch the opponents' defense, using the entire width of the field.
In the 64th minute, Vanat failed to realize a great moment after a free kick.
A few minutes later, Mudryk missed a good chance to save the tie.
But instead of a goal, Ukraine got a penalty kick in its own goal after Matvienko's handball.
With 6 minutes left in regulation time, Sudakov managed to reduce the deficit, but our players could do no more.
