The titled German hockey champion tragically died at the age of 26
The famous German hockey player Tobias Eder has died at the age of 26, the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) reports. The player of the German national team and forward of the Iceberen Berlin club was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in August 2024. He was forced to suspend his career. On January 29, the athlete's condition deteriorated sharply and he died in the hospital.
His career began in youth teams where he achieved significant success, including winning the German Schoolboy Championship. He went on to play for various clubs in the DEL (Deutsche Eishockey Liga, the top professional ice hockey league in Germany), including Red Bull Munich and Düsseldorf, where he gradually became one of the team's leaders. In 2023, Eder signed a contract with Eisbergen Berlin and immediately won the German championship with them.
On the international stage, Eder played for the German youth teams, participated in the World Youth and Junior Championships, and made his debut in the main team in 2021. In 2024, he played in the World Cup for the first time and scored a goal.
Tobias Eder won the German championship in 2024 with Eisbergen Berlin and the German championship silver medalist in 2019 with EHC Red Bull München. In 2015, Eder was recognized as the Player of the Year in the German Youth League (DNL), and was also the top scorer in the regular season and playoffs of the Schüler-Bundesliga. In the same year, he was the top scorer and the best striker in the Southern Group in the DNL.
