The Russian champion was killed by his friend during a feast. All the details of the fatal incident have become known
Anton Yakimenko, 25, a former wrestler and winner of international tournaments, died in Krasnoyarsk. He was a bronze medalist at the 2015 Russian Youth Freestyle Wrestling Championships, won international competitions for the prizes of three-time Olympic champion Buvaisar Saitiev and the Zaur Batayev Tournament in 2017. Yakimenko also won a bronze medal at the 2015 Schoolboys' Spartakiad.
The incident occurred on January 1 in an apartment on Chernyshevsky Street. According to the investigation, Yakymenko was in the company of four people with whom he was drinking alcohol. During the feast, a conflict broke out between him and one of the guests.
During the quarrel, the 26-year-old man pulled out a knife and stabbed the former athlete several times, after which Yakymenko died on the spot.
Law enforcement agencies reported that the athlete had not competed in competitions for several years and led a difficult lifestyle. The alleged killer was detained. He is charged under Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code (murder) and is in custody.
