"The reasons for the ban have been eliminated." Russia excludes "LPR," "DPR," Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions from the Russian Olympic Committee

The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has amended its charter to exclude representatives of the so-called "LPR" and "DPR," as well as the occupied parts of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. Russian Minister of Sports Mikhail Degtyarev said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) now has no grounds to suspend the ROC.

The ROC imposed sanctions against the ROC in October 2023 precisely because of the inclusion of the occupied territories in the Russian organization.

This is how the organization reacted to the illegal inclusion of Olympic councils from the occupied territories of Ukraine in the ROC.

In December 2024, a new charter was adopted, according to which regional Olympic councils lost their membership in the ROC. According to Degtyarev, the number of committee members has decreased by 89, and the reasons given by the ROC when imposing sanctions are no longer relevant.

"Now there are not even formal reasons for any ban. The reasons specified in the decision of the ROC Executive Committee have been eliminated, as we have already informed the IOC," sports.ru quoted Degtyarev as saying.

Letters have also been sent to international winter sports federations demanding that Russian athletes be allowed to qualify for the Olympics.
