Russian teams will not be returned to international soccer tournaments in the near future, but the situation will change over time. At the same time, the suspension of Russian representatives from competitions is illegal and has no grounds.
This was stated by the president of the Russian Football Union (RFU), Alexander Dyukov, in a commentary to the propaganda channel Match TV. The official complained about sanctions against the aggressor country and accused international federations of alleged double standards.
"Double standards for Russia and Israel? You can see that the sanctions pressure is only increasing. Both in the economy and in sports. So, probably, we should hardly expect any positive changes now. But everything is changing quite rapidly, so changes are possible after some time," Dyukov said.
Before that, the Russian Football Federation said that Russia's withdrawal from the European Football Union (UEFA) is allegedly disadvantageous to no one, and the entire organization is working to bring back teams from Russia. And former Spartak player and coach Valery Gladilin expressed the absurd idea that UEFA and its tournaments are incomplete without teams from Russia.
Last year, UEFA tried to return the Russian youth national team to the European Championship qualifying tournament, but faced a stiff rebuff from various countries. More than a dozen federations announced a boycott of the match with the team from the aggressor country. After that, UEFA reversed its decision.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, UEFA President Alexander Čeferin has expressed admiration for Olympic champion Pavel Kolobkov's desire to return Russians to tournaments.
