Bugayenko won the race in Italy

The organizers of the Vicenza-Bionde one-day race played the Russian national anthem after the victory of Russian cyclist Viktor Bugayenko. This violated the rules of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the admission of so-called neutral athletes.

In a commentary to the propaganda TV channel Match TV, Bugayenko himself said that he had not expected such a turn of events and began to justify the race organizers. According to him, the anthem of the Russian terrorist state was included "for the best reasons".

"The organizers decided to include the national anthem at the award ceremony for the best reasons. To be honest, I was a little shocked that they included the anthem, because it is an important moment for any athlete, and we haven't heard it at international competitions for a long time. I can only say one thing about this situation. I'm glad I won. I'm a racer and I just want to compete in a fair sport," Bugayenko said.
