The coach and husband of a famous boxer died during his wife's championship fight

The coach and husband of Argentine boxer Sabrina Maribel Perez (18-2-1, 2 KOs) Diego Arrua suffered a fatal heart attack during the fight for the interim WBC women's featherweight title against undefeated Australian Sky Nicholson (8-0, 0 KOs). The tragic moment occurred 10 seconds before the end of the 9th round.
The fight itself at the arena in Tijuana, Mexico, was expected to go the full 10 rounds, but was not competitive. Nicholson completely dominated the ring and deservedly won 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93.
Arrua was in his wife's corner when she was losing to Nicholson. He collapsed between the ninth and tenth rounds of the fight at the Auditorio Fausto Gutierrez Municipal Stadium and was rushed to the hospital, but could not be saved. Perez was in the ring when the judge announced the result of the fight.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed Arrua's death on social network X, formerly known as Twitter:
"It is with deep sadness that we learned of the sudden passing of Argentine trainer Diego Arrua. He suffered a devastating heart attack while fighting Sabrina Perez in Tijuana. Medical services did everything possible, but he died in the hospital."
Matchroom Boxing, the company that promoted the fight, also expressed its condolences to Perez over the death of her husband: "Our thoughts and condolences go out to Sabrina Perez and her family."
