World No. 1 Iga Swiatek had a training session with her mouth closed on the eve of the Montreal tournament. Unusual photos of the best tennis player on the planet were published by the official WTA website.

The 22-year-old Pole admitted that it was due to endurance, but she can't explain exactly, as she is not an expert in this case. She did so on the instructions of her coach.

"It's harder to breathe when you breathe through your nose only, and it's easier for my heart to increase its rate of contraction afterwards," Swiatek told reporters during a press conference.

The exercise was developed by her fitness coach Maciej Ryszczuk. It helps to limit oxygen consumption to increase endurance. Thus, the cardiovascular system is trained.

"Everything I do on the court becomes a lot more challenging with this tape over my mouth. So I think it's a way to work on my endurance without making me run as fast and do extreme things," Swiatek added.

It should be noted that Swiatek has been constantly declaring her support for Ukraine since last February and has always appeared on the court with a yellow and blue ribbon on her headgear.
