Guchmazova criticized Ukrainians

Georgian fencer Maya Guchmazova demanded that her Ukrainian rivals not participate in international competitions during the war. The Russian woman, who changed her sports citizenship in 2017 but continues to train in her native Vladikavkaz, threw a tantrum after our Olena Kryvytska refused to shake her hand at the European Championships in Basel.

Guchmazova said this in an interview with journalists after her defeat by the Ukrainian, the website echofm.online reports. The 32-year-old athlete was outraged by the fact that Ukrainian fencers are outside their country. She also expressed confidence that she would have been disqualified if she had refused to shake hands with the Ukrainian.

"If you want to show your character and prove something to someone, then do it outside of sports. Take a rifle and fight, defend your homeland. Don't travel around Switzerland at the expense of public money, to competitions, and don't fence! If I had done that, I would have been disqualified," Guchmazova said.

As a reminder, at the 2023 World Fencing Championships, Olga Harlan refused to shake hands with Russian Anna Smirnova. After that, she staged a real circus, sitting on the track for several dozen minutes.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Olga Harlan supported the IOC's decision to ban Russian and Belarusian "neutral athletes" from participating in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics.
