The famous Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina could not break through to the semifinals of the French Open Roland Garros-2023. Our compatriot lost to the representative of Belarus Arina Sobolenko, and after the match she was whistled by the fans because she refused to shake hands with her opponent.
The meeting lasted 96 minutes and ended with a score of 6:4, 6:4. Elina chose the tactics of playing from the defense and forced her opponent to make many mistakes. During the match Sobolenko had 37 unforced errors. However, the Belarusian was much more aggressive, which allowed her to celebrate the victory.
Sobolenko had 30 active draws in this match against seven for Elina. After losing the first game, the Ukrainian led 2-0 at the beginning of the second game, but then lost four games in a row. The second racket of the world from Belarus thus changed the course of the set and brought it to the final success.
Immediately after the match, Sobolenko provoked the stands to aggression against Svitolina. She came up to the net and defiantly waited for a greeting from our tennis player, although she had previously stated that she would not serve hands to her opponents from Russia and Belarus.
As a result, the audience reacted with whistles to the fact that the Ukrainian walked past her opponent and thanked the judge for the fight. On social network Twitter, some of the fans accused Svitolina of hatred, and some mocked Sobolenko. She was reminded of the act of Russian Daria Kasatkina, who showed her an unexpected gesture after losing to Elina.
