Svitolina did not shake hands with Blinkova

Former Ukrainian number one Elina Svitolina was booed by fans after the third round match of the French Open - Roland Garros 2023. Our compatriot met with Russian Anna Blinkova and refused to shake hands with her after the match, which provoked the anger of the stands.

The 28-year-old from Odesa was stronger in this game, winning in three games - 2:6, 6:2, 7:5. Immediately after the match, the tennis players traditionally went to the referee's tower to thank the referee for his work. Svitolina and Blinkova exchanged a few words and went their separate ways.

After that, some of the fans who had been applauding the Ukrainian raised an unhappy noise. Elina herself reacted to the fans' behaviour in a very calm manner and thanked them for their support.

Interestingly, after the Ukrainian's victory speech on the court, the entire arena greeted Svitolina with applause. And on Twitter, some tennis fans pretend not to understand the reasons for the Ukrainians' actions.

Earlier at Roland Garros, Marta Kostiuk from Kyiv was subjected to pressure. She refused to greet the Belarusian Arina Sobolenko, for which she was also booed.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, American tennis player Lauren Davis refused to continue her match with Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko at Roland Garros 2023.
