Surkis named the Dynamo players who fled Ukraine: As soon as the missile flew, they all went home
The president of Dynamo Kyiv, Ihor Surkis, complained that many foreign players could not stand the Ukrainian realities and fled almost after the first air raid. Because of the rocket attacks, it is very difficult to keep foreign players in the team.
"We bought Lonwijk, we bought our Brazilian, Sidcley, who, as soon as the missile flew over, immediately ran home. I asked Kendziora to stay, I asked Verbych to stay - no one wanted to. Families, mothers, fathers - everyone is afraid," PROFUTBOL Digital quoted Surkis as saying.
It will be recalled that Justin Lonwijk, a 23-year-old Dutchman with Surinamese roots, did not want to return to Ukraine because he was afraid to play here during the war with Russia. FIFA's rule that allows players from Ukrainian clubs to terminate their contracts early and leave the country did not apply to Lonwijk, who signed the contract after Russia's full-scale invasion.
