"Something is changing in the brain": the world champion who betrayed Ukraine has been diagnosed
Ruslan Ponomariov, the 2002 world chess champion, expressed confidence that Russian propaganda is using the traitor of our country, Serhii Kariakin, for its own purposes. The native of Horlivka admitted that he was shocked by the position of the winner of the World Rapid Chess Championship, who fiercely supports the war in Ukraine and dictator Vladimir Putin.
Ponomarev said this in an interview with sport-express.ua. The grandmaster, who has been living in Spain for 12 years, added that he could not understand Kariakin's motivation. The behavior of the traitor to Ukraine, who, in particular, recently admired the destruction of Avdiivka, has stumped Ruslan.
"I can suggest that it is some kind of disease. Russian propaganda must have had a very strong effect on Serhii. When you live in Moscow for a few years, perhaps something changes in the brain under its obsessive influence. I am not a doctor, so it is difficult for me to make a specific diagnosis... Perhaps you need to do some tests for that! We have a unique case because it is quite difficult to understand Kariakin's motivation. First of all, Serhii is used for internal Russian propaganda. That is, his statements and actions are aimed primarily at the Z-audience," Ponomariov said.
It should be noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Kariakin has been supporting the war and demonstrating the Z-symbol in every possible way, for which he received a six-month disqualification from FIDE. On June 2 last year, the chess player received the state award of the aggressor country.
This event was called a real disgrace online and the official reason for the authorities' decision was questioned. Last year, Serhii traveled to Donetsk to deliver "aid " to the 117th rifle regiment of the "people's police" of the "DPR".
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Serhii Kariakin became a confidant of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in the 2024 presidential "elections" in Russia. The former chess player was included in the list of people who supported the dictator. He also "divided Ukraine" by naming the regions that Russia is obliged to seize.
