Jovićević leaves Shakhtar

Shakhtar Donetsk's head coach Igor Jovićević has resigned and will not be leading the team in the new season. Despite winning the Ukrainian league and performing well in European competitions, the Shakhtar management decided to dismiss the coach, who signed a two-year contract last summer.

This was reported by the authoritative Croatian publication Sportske novosti. According to the publication, Shakhtar have already decided on a list of candidates to replace Jovićević.

It consists of four experts: Zorya Luhansk coach Patrick van Leeuwen, Feyenoord Rotterdam head coach Arne Slot, who recently extended his contract with the club until 2026, Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano and AC Milan legendary footballer Gennaro Gattuso. The latter has been a free agent since his release from Spanish side Valencia.

Jovićević played 40 matches at Shakhtar in all competitions. Under his leadership, the team won 24 games, drew 11 times and lost five times.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, former Shakhtar Donetsk footballer Yevhen Selezniov called his move to Russian side Kuban a mistake, saying "how could I do that".
