Shakhtar defender Yaroslav Rakytskyi received a straight red card in the 8th round of the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL). The 34-year-old was kicked off in the first half of the away game against Rukh Lviv.
In the 20th minute, Yaroslav made a dangerous tackle against Kvasnytsia, driving into the supporting leg. Initially, referee Vitaliy Romanov did not see any violation of the rules, but after watching the video replay, he changed his decision.
The suspension of one of Shakhtar's main players shocked his teammates. Yaroslav and the team captain Taras Stepanenko tried to find out the reason for the suspension, but this communication with the referee did not affect the result.
As Rakyskyi was leaving the field, he also expressed his indignation at the red card, telling the head coach of Lviv that he playing with the ball only.
The match commentator, for whom Yaroslav's red card came as a complete surprise, is also sure of the legitimacy of the tackle.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw. The goal in the last minutes was scored by Bohdan Sliubyk with a fantastic long-range shot.
