Shakhtar defender makes history

Shakhtar Donetsk defender Yaroslav Rakytskyi scored a goal in the match against Antwerp and became the oldest Ukrainian to score in the Champions League. At the time of the game on October 4, 2023, Yaroslav was 34 years, 2 months and one day old.

Thus, he surpassed the achievement of the legendary footballer Andriy Shevchenko. The former Ukrainian national team player, who once played for Dynamo Kyiv, scored against Inter Milan at the age of 33 years, one month and 6 days. It was Shevchenko's last Champions League goal of his career.

In November 2009, Andriy opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a magnificent shot after a pass from Artem Milevskyi. The match ended in a 1-2 defeat for Kyiv.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the 2nd round of the Champions League group stage game in Belgium between Shakhtar Donetsk and local Antwerp ended with a score of 2-3. After the first half, the Ukrainian champion was losing with 0-2 but managed to turn the game around and snatch the victory.
