The opening ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games took place in Paris. Ukraine will be represented by 140 athletes this year: 96 men and 44 women. Ukrainians will compete in 17 out of 22 sports.
Fencer Olena Fedota-Isaeva and rower Roman Polyansky carried the yellow and blue flag at the traditional parade of athletes. As the Ukrainian team marched, all 50,000 spectators gathered in the stands from the Champs Elysees to the Place de la Concorde stood up and started applauding.
Before that, Ukrainian athletes marched through the Paralympic Village.
It should be noted that the competitions will be held at the same venues that were previously used for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
As OBOZ.UA reported, 143 athletes in 15 sports represented Ukraine at the last Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Most of our compatriots competed in swimming (40) and athletics (32). Our team finished sixth with 98 medals (24 gold, 47 silver and 27 bronze).
At the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Ukraine was among the top 3 medal winners, behind only China and Great Britain.
