"Orwell did not have this". Putin's "Stalinist" assignment provoked real agony among Russian fans
Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has ordered proposals for sports parades on Red Square. The deadline for submitting proposals is March 1, 2024. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has been appointed in charge.
The parade of athletes was first held in the Russian capital in 1919, but it became especially popular and numerous during Stalin's reign. Tens of thousands of athletes took part in the parade, and the event lasted about 4 hours.
In 1946, the parade moved to the Dynamo Stadium in Moscow, and the last one took place in 1954.
Russian fans reacted strongly to their leader's decision.
"Orwell didn't have this...", "No real deeds. It's all about showmanship, muscle, and promises. This is generally the idea of Putin's Russia throughout oldman's reign," users wrote.
Sports fans from Russia don't understand why their country constantly lives in the past.
"No country in the world lives in the style of 'We were deceived', 'We are feared in the West', 'We won the war (80 years ago)' and nothing about the future and the present. Well, maybe except for the DPRK," the fans note.
Social media compares the current Russian Federation to Nazi Germany and believes that it will be the next to try to resuscitate the USSR.
Russians also scoff at their officials' claim that sport is out of politics.
