"Nothing but disappointment": former Russian national team player answers questions about Ukraine at Euro 2024

Former Russian national team coach Anatoly Byshovets has named the Ukrainian national team as the team he will support at the 2024 European Championships. The legendary footballer of Dynamo Kyiv and a native of the capital of our country emphasized that Serhiy Rebrov's team has every chance to open the tournament in Germany.

Byshovets said this in an interview with the Legalbet portal. The Seoul-88 Olympic champion at the head of the USSR national team, who has been living in Moscow since the mid-1980s, also recalled Russia's war against Ukraine. The former footballer noted that it causes him "grief and disappointment".

"Which team will I support? It is clear that Ukraine is in the tournament. Needless to say, this is very important for my family. The situation in general causes me nothing but grief and disappointment. Nevertheless, I must say that the current capabilities of the Ukrainian national football team are good, they exist. I watched their match against Germany. In addition, I have an attitude towards Rebrov, with whom I am familiar. Now many people are waiting for the quality of the game, although the task is to get a result," Byshovets said.

The Ukrainian national team lost to Poland in a friendly match. Before that, our team drew with Germany. In the group stage of Euro 2024, the Blue and Yellows will play Romania, Slovakia and Belgium.
