The Hungarian national ice hockey team failed to retain its place in the elite division of the World Cup. The representatives of the country, which actively supports the Russian invasion, blocks aid to Ukraine, as well as disputes its territorial integrity, took last place in Group A.
In seven games in the tournament, the Hungarians managed to get one win. It happened in a game against the French, where Ukraine's western neighbors were stronger in overtime, 3-2. The Green-White-Red also managed to reach the shootout with Austria, where they were unsuccessful.
Hungary lost their games against Denmark, the USA, Germany, Sweden and Finland with a catastrophic score of 6:31. Russia's allies allowed 37 goals and became the "holey" team in the tournament. The French and Kazakhs allowed 31 goals to their opponents.
Thus, the Hungarian team was relegated to Division 1 of the World Cup, where it will spend next season. Together with them the Slovenians were relegated.
