Ukrainian judoka Stanislav Hulenkov, who had long been considered missing, died in a confrontation with the Russian occupiers in the Donetsk region. The athlete and border guard fought his last battle in April 2023 near the village of Novokalynove. The command confirmed the death of the defender from Volyn, who is now forever 22.

Stanislav had been practicing judo since he was five years old and was a pupil of the Volyn Regional Organization of the Dynamo Football Club of Ukraine. He won numerours awards at the European Junior Cup, repeatedly won national championships among cadets and youth, and was awarded the title of Master of Sports of Ukraine in judo.

Later, around the age of 10, Hulenkov took up sambo. He has also repeatedly won European and Ukrainian championships in this martial art.

Stanislav's sporting skills came in handy while performing state border protection tasks when he was serving in the Lutsk detachment.

During the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the resident of Lutsk was serving under contract at the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine as an inspector of the second category grenadier of the 3rd department of the rapid response border guard commandant's office.

The last time Sergeant Hulenkov got in touch was on April 20, 2023, while performing a combat mission in Donetsk region near Novokalynove, Avdiivka direction. Since then, his family considered him missing. And only the day before it became known that Stanislav was killed that day. The body of the soldier was identified only now.

"The Ukrainian Judo Federation expresses its sincere condolences to Stanislav's family! His self-sacrifice and dedication in defending his homeland is an example of courage and patriotism for the entire Ukrainian people. May his young soul find peace in heaven, and may the family and friends of our defender have the strength and patience to survive this terrible loss," the Ukrainian Judo Federation said in a statement.
