Peskov criticizes the IOC

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) should ignore Russia's invasion of Ukraine and not be interested in this topic at all. The organization should also lift any restrictions on Russian representatives and allow them to compete with national symbols.

This cynical and ridiculous demand was made by Dmitry Peskov in a commentary to the propaganda outlet Sport-Express. The spokesman for the Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin accused the IOC of politicizing sport, threatening its collapse, and allegedly "double standards."

"Nothing good is happening in sports. The Olympic movement is probably in danger of collapse. Of course, the IOC leadership needs to think very carefully about the decisions they make regarding our country. And think about the concept of "double standards". They turn a blind eye to situations in other parts of the world. What is happening around Ukraine suddenly becomes a subject of their interest. Although sport should be free of politics. They should think about it, because there is a threat," Peskov said.

Earlier, the head of the Kremlin's press service was ridiculed online after saying that world sports is "getting poorer, losing its level" due to the suspension of Russian athletes.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, IOC President Thomas Bach nicely put Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in his place, accusing the official of betraying the sport by reminding him of Russia's attack on Ukraine.
