Karma cathes up with 13-time Lithuanian champion for loving Russia
13-time Lithuanian figure skating champions Margarita Drobiazko and her husband Povilas Vanagas will not be allowed to attend the 2024 European Championships in Kaunas, respublika.lt reports, citing the head of the Lithuanian Skating Federation (LFS) Vytautas Jasutis. The day before, 51-year-old Drobyazko was deprived of Lithuanian citizenship for participating in the ice shows of Ukraine's traitor Tatiana Navka.
The World Championship bronze medalist was also previously stripped of all state awards for supporting Dmitry Peskov's wife.
"No one can deny the contribution of our best couple of all time to this sport. It is a pity that they will not be able to come to the championship now. In other circumstances, it would probably be very appropriate," Jasutis said at a press conference organized by the Seimas on Friday.
"I am not a judge and certainly not a moral judge. The Federation has made its position very clear. There is no ambiguity in the issue of Ukraine, there is no ambiguity in the assessment of the actions of our previous couple," the LFS chairman said.
According to Jasutis, other athletes from Russia and Belarus were not allowed to participate in the championship.
"The International Skating Union decided that there would be no Russians or Belarusians at least this season a few months ago," the head of the Federation added.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, a well-known Russian figure skating coach Tatiana Tarasova called Lithuanians sick people after of the deprivation of Margarita Drobiazko's citizenship.
