Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the international sports movement is degrading due to the actions of Western countries. According to Zakharova, the IOC leadership and Westerners "do not disdain the lowest methods" in their efforts to abolish Russian sport.
The Russian diplomat even listed what the International Olympic Committee allegedly does: bribery, threats and blackmail against the NOC, incitement, organizing surveillance of Russian athletes, and discrimination.
"We are convinced that such actions harm the entire global sports community and lead to the degradation of the entire global sports movement. By eliminating the strongest participants and thereby reducing the level of competition, international organizations slow down the development of world sports. The spectacle and interest of spectators in the competition is being lost," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said in an interview with Match TV.
