It's official: Tyson Fury got an opponent and a date for the fight
WBC World Boxing Champion Tyson Fury will fight former Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC) titleholder Francis Ngannou. The bout between the 34-year-old Brit and the 36-year-old French Cameroonian will take place on October 28 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Ngannou's manager Markel Martin confirmed the official arrangement, "My charge has defied the odds again. We have done it."
The 10-round fight will take place under classic boxing rules with three ringside judges using a 10-point scoring system. WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman had not commented on whether a championship belt would be on the line at the time the news was published.
"This guy should be the strongest boxer in the world, but we'll see how he responds to the punches of the big Gypsy King. I'm looking forward to showing that Gypsy King is the greatest fighter of a generation. It will be a fight for the ages," Fury commented while signing the contract.
Ngannou was more succinct: "Never doubt a man with hope and faith."
According to unofficial information, the Frenchman wants to earn $30 million for the fight.
Earlier, Fury's promoter Frank Warren announced that the Briton will not fight with Ukrainian Okleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia this December.
To remind, Usyk on August 26 is to make a mandatory defense in a fight against Daniel Dubois (19-1, 18 KOs). Saudi Arabia was intended to organize fights Usyk - Fury and Anthony Joshua (25-3, 22 KOs) - Deontay Wilder in one night.
The boxers' fees for the grand show have been released to the media. That said, Anthony has already confirmed his bout against Deontay.
