International Federation run by a Russian finally kicked out of world sport for good
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the International Boxing Association's (IBA) appeal against the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session to revoke the organization's recognition, according to a CAS release. In June, the IOC voted to revoke the recognition of the IBA, which is run by Russian Umar Kremlin.
In 2019, the IOC temporarily withdrew the IBA's recognition status for economic reasons and due to a management crisis in the organization, and also put forward reform requirements. In mid-June, the IBA filed an appeal with the CAS against this decision and asked the court to suspend the IOC's recommendations until the final verdict is reached.
The CAS decision states that the IBA does not meet the conditions set by the IOC for recognition of the organization.
- IBA has not improved its financial transparency and sustainability
- The IBA has not changed its process for referees and judges to ensure its integrity
- IBA has not ensured full and effective implementation of all proposed measures by the "Governance Reform Group" established by the IOC
"The CAS Panel concluded that these three elements justified the decision of the IOC Session to withdraw the IBA's recognition and emphasized that the IOC's right to control the circumstances and conditions under which it grants recognition outweighs the IBA's individual rights," the CAS release said.
In 2023, the IBA allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in international competitions with national symbols, contrary to IOC recommendations.
Earlier, the IBA ignored the CAS decision to ban the presidential election and re-elected Kremlin. As a result, the ardent fan of dictator Vladimir Putin imposed sanctions on Ukraine.
In September 2022, the IBU banned our country's junior team from competing under the national flag at the European Championships. In response, our team announced a boycott and withdrew from the competition. The legendary Oleksandr Usyk supported his compatriots and appealed to the Kremlin.
