"Incredible cynicism". Russia invites Ukrainians to the Friendship Games, promising to "ensure security"
Ukrainian athletes will be invited to the Friendship Games to be held in Moscow and Yekaterinburg, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin has said. The competitions will take place from 15 to 29 September 2024.
"Of course, we will invite them and ensure the safety of their stay in Russia, as well as equal competitive rights to participate in the Friendship Games," Matytsin said on Match TV.
The official's words provoked a strong reaction on the Internet. Even Russian fans call the situation "cynicism of the highest level".
"This is certainly something. As they say, 'beyond good and evil', 'There is not a single day when Russian officials do not impress with their stupidity'," users write.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Matytsin reacted to the disqualification of Ukrainian sabre fencer Olga Harlan at the World Championships in Milan. The official believes that this is outrageous behaviour.
