"I'm impressed": two-time Olympic champion admires Svitolina
Former world number one Andy Murray of Great Britain has admitted that he is completely delighted with the performances of Ukrainian Elina Svitolina after the birth of her daughter. The two-time Olympic champion noted that no one expected that our compatriot would not only return to her level, but also improve the quality of her game.
Murray's words are quoted by the Tennis Letter Twitter account. The 37-year-old winner of three Grand Slam singles tournaments added that Svitolina's example shows tennis players the opportunity to take a break from active performances to start a family or restart their careers.
"I'm amazed at how well and how quickly Svitolina has returned to playing at such a high level. So quickly after having a baby. Having examples like that will encourage more players to take career breaks if they want to," Murray said.
As a reminder, Svitolina did not play in international competitions from March 2022 to April 2023. During the break, the Ukrainian dropped to 1081st place in the world rankings. In May, Elina won the Strasbourg tournament and then reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros and the semifinals of Wimbledon.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the day before, Elina Svitolina defeated Russia's top-ranked Daria Kasatkina at a prestigious tournament in Washington, DC.
