Russian footballer Yevgeny Kabayev, who played in the Estonian top league from 2009 to 2019, shared his memories of the cases of Russophobia he faced in this country. The 36-year-old native of Leningrad played for Kalev, Lootus and Levadia.

According to the striker, the most striking prejudice against Russians was manifested at the border.

"You stand for hours at the border, they see Russian license plates - they start digging in, searching the car. If the license plates are Estonian, they give you the green light," Kabayev told the SBG Show YouTube channel. He noted that, in his opinion, the Estonian police "have always disliked Russians," and he "felt it on myself."

However, in the domestic sphere, for example, in shops, the athlete did not face discrimination.

Kabayev also spoke about the income of football players in Estonia. According to him, during the period of his performances, the average salary of a football player in the country was from 1 to 2 thousand euros, and the top players had from 3 to 5 thousand euros. He received the highest salary of 3.5 thousand euros in 2010-2011.

In 2019, Kabayev said goodbye to Estonia. His work visa was canceled due to unpaid speeding fines. After that, the player continued his career in Honduras, joining Real de Minas. In 2020, he moved to Thailand, where he signed a contract with the second league club Samutsakhon and scored a goal in his debut game.
