Honoured coach of Ukraine in athletics, who went to war in May, died at the front

Famous Ukrainian marathon running coach Igor Osmak was killed in the war with Russia, Iryna Lishchynska, a silver medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, posted on Instagram.
From the first days of the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian specialist defended his homeland as part of the territorial defence. On May 14, 2023, Igor posted on his Facebook page that his training at the Lviv training ground was complete and he was heading east to fight the occupiers.
Igor Osmak was born in Kyiv in 1965 and studied at the Kyiv Institute of Physical Culture. In 1998, he received the title of international master of sports. In 2012, he became an Honoured Coach of Ukraine.
For more than 10 years, he worked as an athletics coach at the Kyiv Regional School of Higher Sportsmanship.
Its most famous student is Tatiana Gamera-Shmyrko, a participant in the 2012 Olympics. She finished fifth in the marathon race in London.
On her Instagram account, Tatiana could not find the words to express her feelings of loss.
