Three-time Russian football champion with Zenit Andrey Lunev recalled his performance for Bayer Leverkusen from 2021 to 2023. Speaking about Germany, the 32-year-old former Russian national team goalkeeper admitted that he had unpleasant incidents after the full-scale invasion began.
Lunev arrived in Leverkusen in his car with Russian license plates, which immediately affected the attitude towards him.
"There were incidents in the city, there were incidents on the road when everything was just beginning. There were no excesses, but there were provocations, phrases, gestures. When I eat, they show me the facts. Once we were standing in a traffic jam, there was a big bus, a German driver got out... He had a goatee, rings in his nose and ear, some kind of informal. He was waving his arms and shouting. I had a thought to stop and ask what he wanted," Lunev said on the 22 Fools YouTube channel.
At the same time, the goalkeeper believes that no one in Germany particularly touches Russians.
"Well, once there was a Ukrainian woman walking by. Oh, no, it happened twice. I stopped at the pharmacy, parked the car, got out, and there she was, from the yard, from the alley: "Glory to Ukraine!" I don't care, let them shout. I take it calmly. We had communication, the children played with Russian-speaking children from Ukraine, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan. I didn't pay attention to such provocations, especially from strangers," said the Muscovite, who now plays for Azerbaijani Karabakh.
