He was against Russia. The world's best chess player staged a riot at the World Championship and suddenly left the tournament. What was the reason
The world's best grandmaster Magnus Carlsen has been punished by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) for violating the dress code at the World Rapid Championships in New York, the organization's press service reports. The 34-year-old Norwegian came to the tournament in jeans, which is prohibited by the rules.
The chief judge fined him $200 and asked him to change. However, Carlsen refused, which is why he was not allowed to play in the ninth round.
After that, Magnus staged a rebellion, refusing to participate in the competition. Carlsen said that on the eve of the tournament, he barely had time to change his clothes in the afternoon, put on a shirt and jacket, but did not pay attention to his jeans.
Magnus offered to change his clothes the next day, but the organizers insisted on an immediate change. The athlete refused, noting that he did not intend to comply on principle.
Carlsen said that his patience with FIDE was running out and he preferred to leave rather than abide by the rules. He noted that he would not defend his world blitz title and would go to a place where the climate was better. In conclusion, Carlsen spoke harshly about the situation: "I'm leaving. Go f*ck yourselves."
At the time of his withdrawal from the tournament, Carlsen had played eight games: three wins, four draws, and one loss.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, in September this year, Carlsen opposed the restoration of Russia and Belarus' membership in the International Federation (FIDE). The Norwegian grandmaster disagreed with the plans of FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich to return the representatives of the aggressor country to the organization's tournaments under national flags.
