"He played awful": Lucescu criticized the young star of Dynamo after the Ukrainian Cup fiasco
The head coach of Dynamo Kyiv, Mircea Lucescu, criticized the team's young star Volodymyr Brazhko for his game in the 1/8 finals of the Ukrainian Cup against Obolon. The Romanian specialist emphasized that the holding midfielder had a terrible match, which was one of the factors behind the defeat of the White and Blues.
Lucescu said this at a press conference after the match on September 27, the official website of the capital's club reports. The Dynamo coach added that his players were not properly motivated for the match against their city neighbors.
"Brazhko played very poorly, made a lot of mistakes in passing, didn't play defense as he should. This is not a problem with the players, but with their mentality, because they knew that the cup match was a special match. There is no difference between big and small clubs here. You can only win if you have a great desire, do everything on the field and stay focused all the time. We gave Obolon a chance to score multiple times, and we missed their counterattacks. Only during the last 20 minutes did we play the way we were supposed to play," Lucescu said.
As a reminder, Dynamo lost to Obolon in the Kyiv derby with a slight difference in scoring and dropped out of the Ukrainian Cup. "The White and Blues failed to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament for the first time since 2012."
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Oleksandriia team from the city of the same name in the Kirovohrad region dramatically reached the quarterfinals of the Ukrainian Cup. Ruslan Rotan's team beat Lviv's Rukh in the match of the 1/8 finals at the stadium named after him thanks to an auto-goal in the last seconds.
