For the first time in history! Ukraine wins the World Cup among players with hearing impairments
The Ukrainian Deaflympic team won the 2023 World Cup, which took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from September 23 to October 7. Our team became the best among 19 teams that took part in the World Cup.
In the final match, Oleksandr Vereshchaka's team beat Japan 2-1, winning the tournament for the first time in their history.
Ihor Reutov won the title of top scorer for the Yellow and Blues with eight goals.
This was the second medal of the world championship for the Ukrainian national team. In 2012, our compatriots won the bronze medal.
For Ukraine, this is the fourth participation in the World Cup among deaf football players. In 2008 and 2016, our team finished the tournament in 9th place.
In the historic medal standings, Ukraine came in third place. Turkey leads with two gold medals. Germany, the winners of the first World Cup in 2008, is in second place.
