The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (CAS) has dismissed the appeal of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) against its suspension from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The CAS Commission recognized the punishment of the ROC, which illegally included the occupied regions of Ukraine in its membership, as fair.
This is stated on the official CAS website. In October, the ROC included the sports councils of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions of Ukraine, for which it was punished by the IOC. The CAS noted that the IOC Executive Committee did not violate the principles of legality, equality, predictability or proportionality.
The IOC then accused the aggressor country of violating the Olympic Charter and encroaching on the integrity of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. The punishment resulted in Russia not participating in IOC activities and not receiving funding.
Shortly before that, it became known that Russia had filed a lawsuit against the IOC demanding payment of almost nine million dollars under one of the marketing programs.
